Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia – As has been witnessed by all of us this year, 2020 has been a turmoil of emotions and unexpected events. With so much uncertainty, it was truly difficult to identify optimism or venture towards impact through the difficulties. Amidst it all, Elmangos Ventures has been privileged to have been able to work on a beneficial event with the same impact as the Islamic Fintech Week 2020 and particularly, at a year as such and under these circumstances.

IFW2020, as the first ever virtual Islamic Fintech event of its kind, concluded reaching 1730+ global participants, 66 distinguished speakers, 110+ financial institutions, 28 startups, from 73 countries all encapsulated in an inclusive Five days of activities.

Attended by the Deputy Finance Minister II of Malaysia YB Sahar Abdullah and the Chairman of Malaysia Digital Economy Corporation (MDEC), Datuk Wira Dr. HJ. Rais Hussin Mohamed Ariff, the event was a digital platform of global stakeholders, regulators, tech startups and the Islamic finance fraternity that all gathered efforts towards jumpstarting the expansion of Islamic fintech ecosystem and the collective growth of Islamic Fintech.

The event  covered four themes under the umbrella theme “Islamic Fintech Future” over the period of four days. The themes were: Future of Islamic Finance, Future of Islamic Fintech, Investing, and Fintech for Financial Inclusion. Each theme included a variety of topics for discussion featured in unique formats including debates, panels, keynotes and roundtables, and more. Finally, the fifth and last day of IFW2020 featured The Pitch, a competition for Islamic Fintech startups to pitch their brands live to investors. The Pitch included 49 applicants out of which 28 applicant companies presented live to 24 Institutions and Angel Investors.

IFW2020 hopes to be the first step towards more events of the same caliber with special thanks to our collaborator Ethis and the sponsors and partners that made the event possible and attendees from around the globe.
